Debug Tools

The Foliage Renormalizer Utility (and Proxy Stealer) inspector includes two built-in Scene-view visualizers for inspecting your results without setting up any materials. Both temporarily swap the target renderer's materials and restore them when turned off.

Debug Render Normals

Found in the Foliage Normals section. When enabled, the target renderer is drawn with a normals-visualizer material, mapping the vertex normal direction to color. Use it to:

  • Confirm the normal transfer produced smooth, outward-facing canopy normals.
  • Compare the original mesh against the renormalized result.
  • Judge the effect of Proxy Normal Influence and Normal Upward Bias.

The proxy mesh preview (Show Proxy Mesh) uses this same material.

Debug Render Vertex Color

A radio row (None / R / G / B / A) that previews a single vertex color channel in the Scene view. Use it to verify your AO bake:

  • Select the channel you baked AO into to see the occlusion as grayscale shading on the mesh.
  • Select None to restore the original materials.
Tip

Both visualizers restore your original materials automatically when you toggle them off or switch the other visualizer on. They never modify your material assets.
